Men’s Basketball Set Back to an 8-4 Overall Record

Box Score ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University men's basketball team fell to a 8-4 overall record after losing to Shaw University on January 5. The final score was 61-72.

VSU shot 42.6 percent (23-54) from the field, 23.1 percent (3-13) from behind the arc and 42.9 percent (12-28) from the free throw line.

Sophomore Elijah Moore took the helm in scoring for the Trojans with 16 points while bringing in 4 rebounds. Senior Lamar Kearse also collected 13 points for the Trojans.

The men put up a good fight against the Bears. After falling short of the lead in the first half with a score of 29-38, the Trojans kicked it into high gear in the middle of the second half.  VSU was 5 points shy of tying the game with 6:37 left on the clock. The last minute momentum was not enough for the Trojans to take the win.

VSU will be on the road on Thursday, January 8 playing against the Rams of Winston-Salem State University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
