LINCOLN, PA – The Virginia State University softball team's great offensive talent helps sweep the Lions of Lincoln University in a double header on Wednesday, April 2
nd at Lincoln University softball field.
Virginia State shutout the Lions, 20-0, in game one of a double header. Junior
Logan Tollison (Chester, VA) led the Trojans with 4 RBI's as Freshman
Raelea Taylor (Aquasco, MD) captured 3 RBI's.
The Trojans scored six runs in the first inning, six runs in the second inning, four runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning.
In game two of the double header, VSU's offensive game continued to overpower Lincoln as the Trojans scored ten runs in the first inning, three runs in the second inning, just one run in the third inning as the Lions were able to collect four runs of their own.
VSU picked the momentum back up in the fourth inning earning eight runs and four runs in the fifth inning for a total of 26 runs on the game to Lincolns 4 to acclaim another victory over the Lions.
For both games collectively, the Trojans had a total of 22 hits, 33 RBI's and 46 runs against Lincoln on the day.
Senior
Jessica Mattia (Accokeek, MD) and freshman Marrisa Hughes (Upper Marlboro, MD) both took wins on the mound. Mattia held Lincoln to no hits in game one while collecting twelve strikeouts and Hughes held the Lions to seven hits, earning two strikeouts.
The Trojans return to action to play host to Chowan University on April 5
th in a CIAA Northern Division match-up. First pitch is slated for 2:00 pm.
