PETERSBURG, VA - The Virginia State Trojans dropped a 7-4 decision against the Lady Falcons of St. Augustine's University in the 2014 CIAA quarterfinal game on Thursday evening. As the Lady Falcons advance to the semifinals with the victory, the Trojans will face elimination on Friday morning as they take on the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University at 10:00 am at the Petersburg Sports Complex.
The Trojans allowed the Lady Falcons to score four runs in the third inning and two in the fourth inning before VSU scored three runs at the bottom of the fourth inning to bring the Trojans within three, 6-3.
VSU was unable to respond offensively as a result of crucial errors that plagued the Trojans defensively, suffering a disappointing setback.
Endya Bailey led the Trojans offensively with two RBI's while teammates
Cameryn Smith and
Raelea Taylor both earned one RBI.
Jessica Mattia took the loss on the mound while Hanna Stutts picked up the win and Miranda Zanni was accredited for the save for the Lady Falcons.
