ETTRICK, Va.- The Virginia State University Softball team took advantage of the great weather, winning two games over the Virginia Union University Panthers on March 15.
During the first game of the day, the Trojans did not get on the board until the bottom of the third inning.
Jamilia Smith and
Endya Bailey received RBI's while
Verlisha Brandon ran in from second base. The score was 3-2 with the Trojans leading.
In the fourth inning,
Logan Tollison worked the bases by getting a single, stealing second before
Janay Joseph came to bat and hit a double advancing Tollison home for the run.
Jameshia Smith comes to bat and with a base hit Joseph advance home to give the a two point lead over the panthers.
The Lady Panthers attempted to take the lead with three runs at the top of the fifth inning, but the Trojans matched their three points bring the score to 8-6.
One point by Virginia Union at the top of the seventh, gave the Trojans their first victory of the day, 8-7.
Virginia State had a slow start in game two.
D'Auna Noggin and DeMone Brickhouse put the Trojans on the board with two runs at the bottom of the fourth inning.
After getting warmed up, Virginia State gained three runs at the bottom fifth inning off of advances and errors. The score at the top of the sixth was 5-1.
A run from the Trojans in the bottom of the sixth and a point from the Lady Panther at the top of the seventh would end the ball game 6-2 with Virginia State taking the victory.
The Trojans softball team has a current overall record of 6-6, 5-0 in the conference. They will be playing another conference game against the Elizabeth City State University Vikings for a double header on March 16 beginning at 2:00PM in Elizabeth City, NC.
