Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.- The men's basketball team of Virginia State University defeated West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets on November 29 with a last minute basket by senior guard
Lamar Kearse (Syracuse, NY) with .9 seconds on the clock. The final score was 70-68.
Kearse rounded out the game with 19 points, two rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block followed by rookie forward
Troy Locke (Portsmouth, Va.) with 19 points and nine rebounds. Senior center
Alphonso Leary (Norfolk, Va.) secured 16 points, four rebounds and two blocks for the Trojans.
The scoring remained close for most of the game. VSU got an edge on West Virginia State going into the half with a score of 28-22.
The Trojans took advantage of the open opportunities to give them their 70-68 win.
VSU shot 46.0 percent (23-50) from the field, 25.0 percent (1-4) from behind the arc and 71.9 percent (23-32) from the free throw line.
The Trojans will travel to the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, NY to take on Virginia Union University for the 2014 Big Apple Classic. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
