ETTRICK, Va. – Returning only four players off last season's team, the Virginia State University Men's basketball team opens its season in Daniel Gymnasium, Friday, Nov 14 hosting its annual Trojans Tip-off Classic.
VSU faces Concord University at 8 p.m. on Friday and host UVA-Wise on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.
Spearheaded by second year head coach
Lonnie Blow, Jr. the Trojans looks to improve on last season 14-13 overall record and to be more aggressive in the paint this season.
Senior guard and Syracuse, N.Y. native,
Lamar Kearse looks to pick up where he left off a season ago, leading the team with eleven points per game; while sophomore forward
Elijah Moore; senior forward Larry Salvage, and sophomore forward
Amiel Terry each played valuable minutes last season.
With eleven newcomers being added to this year's squad, the Trojans look to bring more size and versatility to the court to help them become more complete, inside and out.
Concord returns 10 student-athletes from a season ago; including its top three scorers from a season ago: Mike Boyd (13.8 points per game); Cam Shannon (11.0 ppg); and Terry Hopewell (8.3 ppg).
