Raleigh, NC. – Although the men's basketball team returned home with a letdown, they put up a fight against the Shaw Bears.
Kevin Wiggins kicked things into high gear with a steal and pass to
Christopher Grier who took the opportunity to "dunk" the ball for the first points on the scoreboard. As the Bears went back down court, a dunk from Shaw's Koron Reed gave the crowd excitement. For the next 16 minutes the Trojans would have the Bears on their toes for the lead keeping the score within two points. With 2:59 remaining in the first half, Larry Richardson hits a three pointer before Shaw slowly slipped way and took the lead going into halftime with a 33-23 score.
In the second half, the Trojans went to do a replay of the first half as
Lamar Kearse steals the ball within the first 13 seconds of the game and passed to Grier in hope of making the basket. After the miss by Grier, the Trojans were not able to get back in the flow of the game as they did in the first half. Starters,
Lamar Kearse and Grier worked to keep hope alive by scoring in the double digits in the second half followed by
Amiel Terry with nine points. The game came to an end with a final score of 77-69.
Overall Grier and Kearse collected 14 points each while Terry secured 12 points. Freshman
Elijah Moore led the Trojans with seven rebounds.
The men's basketball team will be home for their "Orange Crush" game against the Winston-Salem State Rams (7-6 overall). Tipoff begins at 7:30pm in Daniel Gymnasium. Come out and support the "True Orange and Blue."
