Cameryn Smith had five total hits against Davis & Elkins College in a double-header on Friday, March 1^st in Petersburg, VA. Virginia State lost both games to the Senators, 2-1 in game one and 12-3 in game two.

Pitcher Jessica Mattia started her sixth game of the season and struck out six Davis & Elkins batters in the earlier game. She allowed five hits and walked three batters while allowing no earned runs against the Senators.

Davis & Elkins scored the game's first run in the second inning on a fielding error by the Virginia State defense. A runner was on third base for the Senators that scored an unearned run. Again in the fifth inning, the Trojans defense committed a second error on a muffled catch. Davis & Elkins next batter hit a double to center field to score a second unearned run.

The Trojans held off the Senators for the remainder of the game. Trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning Virginia State began to rally. VSU's Inez Hudson led off with a single up the middle for a base hit then stole second base, putting herself in scoring position. Next, Logan Tollison hit an RBI double to center field to score Inez Hudson cutting the Senators lead (2-1). The Trojans failed to add on any more runs in game as two runners were left on base in that inning­­­­. The game finished with a 2-1 lost for Virginia State.

Both Inez Hudson and Cameryn Smith recorded two hits each in game one. Logan Tollison had the only RBI for VSU on a double in the sixth inning.

In the later game, Cameryn Smith had a season-high three hits for the Trojans. Virginia State hopped on top with an early score in the first inning. Inez Hudson led off the inning with a double to center field then stole third base. With a runner in scoring position, Logan Tollison reached base on a wild pitch that scored Inez Hudson giving the Trojans the 1-0 lead.

Inez Hudson pitched for the Trojans. She had a rough second inning as the Senators tacked on four runs on five hits. They responded taking a 4-1 lead. Virginia State shortened the lead in the third inning as Logan Tollison hit an RBI double to center field to score Jamilia Smith. Davis & Elkins went on to add eight runs on in the sixth inning to take a commanding lead.

The Senators won 12-3, sweeping the Trojans in the double-header.
