Trojans fall short in the battle

Ettrick, Va.- Virginia State University men's basketball lost the battle against Alderson Broaddus, 60-50.

The first half started out slow for the Trojans, as they only scored two points in the first few minutes of the game.  Things began to look up for the Trojans when DeShon Dabbs and Chris Grier got in the game. Both players worked to close the scoring gap to five points followed by Lamar Kearse scoring back to back, making a layup and a three pointer. The half ended with Trojans trailing the Battlers by a small margin, 24-21.

As the second half started, the Trojans and Battlers continue to go back and forth on the board.  With the game tied four times and the Trojans taking the lead three times, there was still hope for a win. As the clock ran down, the Trojans fell short of a victory against the Battlers. Currently the Trojans have a 7-2 record.

Junior Lamar Kearse and Sophomore DeShon Dabbs both scored a team high of 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

The Trojans will begin conference play on Sunday, December 15, 2013 as they take on the Panthers of Virginia Union at the Barclay Stadium in Brooklyn, New York.  They will return home for play on January 9, 2014 against the Rams of Winston- Salem State at 7:30pm.
