The Trojans basketball team defeated the Bulldogs of Barton College 58-56 and the Trojans of Mount Olive College 55-51 at the 48
th annual Mount Olive Pickle Classic.
On the first day of the tournament, the Trojans kept the scoring gap close only trailing the Bulldogs by two points at the start of halftime. The second half continued with the Trojans keeping a steady pace on the court.
Starting guards
Lamar Kearse scored 10 points while
DeShon Dabbs collected 11 points. Starting forward
Larry Savage also collected 10 points with three rebounds during the game. A layup by
Amiel Terry and a good free throw shot by Kearse and
Brandon Farmer gave the Trojans a two point lead and the win.
The Virginia State and Mount Olive Trojans met head-to-head on the second day of the tournament. Virginia State took the lead with 14:32 left in first half with a good layup and tip in by
Kevin Wiggins. The Trojans would stay in the lead, finishing the first half 32-27. Mount Olive attempted to take the lead two minutes into the second half, but a two good free throw shots from
Larry Savage brought the Trojans back in the lead and secured their second win of the weekend.
Lamar Kearse who scored 21 points during the tournament and
Kevin Wiggins who secured nine points against Mount Olive where named to the 2013 Pickle Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Trojans will be back in action hosting the 6th annual Chick-fil-A on Nov. 29 and 30 at 1:00pm in Daniel Gymnasium.
