The Virginia State volleyball team (10-7, 6-1) defeated Bowie State (2-18, 1-11) in straight sets, 25-14, 25-14 and 25-10. The Trojans have won seven of their last nine matches losing only two sets in the seven victories.
The Trojans were led by freshman
Diamond Simpson, who finished with a game-high 19 assists along with four digs. Teammates
Dierdre Carter,
Aubree Parker, and
Alexsys Pullen each added six kills to the team's victory.
Bowie State never led in the first two sets and led only briefly, 2-0, in the third set. After trailing, the Trojans registered nine unanswered points.
Trojans will face off against their fierce rival Virginia Union on Oct. 14 at 6:00 p.m. in Richmond.
