Mitchell and Harris Carry the Trojans in 78-60 Loss To Shaw

After trailing Shaw by two points (34-32) at halftime, Virginia State surrendered 44 second half points and were defeated 78-60 on Monday, January 7th in Petersburg, VA. Kenny Mitchell had a team-high 20 points while Allen Harris scored 16.

Allen Harris led the Trojans' bench with 13 points in the first half including a perfect 6 of 6 from the free-throw line. Kenny Mitchell added seven points with six rebounds also in the first half as the Trojans remained close but trailed 34-32 at the half.

Shaw picked up the defensive pressure in the second half and shot 63% from the field. Virginia State was 35% from the field led by Kenny Mitchell's 13 points in the second half. Shaw went on several scoring runs and extending their lead to double-digits late in the game and closed out the Trojans 78-60.
Kenny Mitchell finished with 20 points and eight rebounds. Allen Harris led the Trojans bench with 16 points and three rebounds. Shawn Porter recorded a game-high 10 rebounds for the Trojans with four points.

VSU (6-6, 1-2) travels to Winston-Salem, NC on Thursday, Jan. 10th at 7:30 p.m. against the Rams of Winston-Salem State.
