Box Score Kenny Mitchell recorded his first double-double of the season with 19 points and a season-high 11 rebounds, but the Trojans fell on the road to Johnson C. Smith University 67-54 on Monday, January 14
th in Charlotte, NC.
Kenny Mitchell scored 15 of his game-high 19 points in the first half pacing the Trojans offensive attack. He had a great game for the Trojans shooting 8 for 15 from the field and also hit a shot from three-point range, his eighth three-pointer of the season.
Allen Harris carried the load in the second half with eight points and
John Holleman added seven points.
The Trojans hit five shots from three-point land but failed to get to the free-throw line (5-10) as Johnson C. Smith was 24 of 33. Johnson C. Smith converted on 16 of 21 free-throws in the second half while the Trojans were 2 of 4. VSU last led JCSU (15-14) at the 12 minute mark in the first half and never reclaimed the lead falling 67-54.
VSU (7-8, 2-4) went 1-2 on their three game road trip against the CIAA southern division. The Trojans will play on Sunday, January 20
th at the Richmond Coliseum against their rival Virginia Union University at the Freedom Classic at 7:00 pm opening up CIAA divisional play.
