Box Score James Vann poured in a career-high 22 points and six rebounds as the Trojans defeated the Blue Bears of Livingstone College 85-74 in Salisbury, NC on Saturday, January 12
th.
Defensively, the Trojans held Livingstone to 39% shooting from the field and 16 turnovers. Virginia State's offense hit 10 shots from three-point range behind
Mike Bynum's five made and
James Vann's three.
James Vann carried a Trojans bench that outscored Livingstone's bench 48-16. Vann played 24 minutes and had a career-night scoring 22 points with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Vann made 7 of 9 attempts from the free-throw line and was 3 for 4 from behind the three-point arc.
Two other Trojans hit double-figures against Livingstone.
Kenny Mitchell scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds while
Mike Bynum went 5 for 6 from three-point land and finished with 17 points.
After a rocky start, Virginia State finally took the lead at the 7:44 mark in the first half. Livingstone committed 16 turnovers that led to 20 points for the Trojans. Their lead grew to 20 points in the second half and the Trojans cruised to an 85-74 win on the road over Livingstone.
The Trojans improve to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the CIAA conference. VSU travels to Charlotte, NC on Monday, January 14
th facing Johnson C. Smith University at 7:30 p.m.
