Box Score Christopher Grier led the Trojans with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assist in a 72-58 road loss against Winston-Salem State on Thursday, January 10
th at the C.E. Gaines Center.
The Trojans shot 49% from the field and hit six three-pointers but the Rams of Winston-Salem State expanded their lead to double-digits closing out Virginia State.
Christopher Grier was 6 for 14 from the field with two made shots from three-point land for a team-high 15 points. Grier also recorded four offensive and four defensive rebounds to lead Virginia State.
Virginia State trailed Winston-Salem State at the half 30-26. The Rams exploded offensively in the second half by nailing 18 of 24 attempts from the free-throw line.
Christopher Grier and
Allen Harris both paced VSU scoring eight points each in the second half but the Trojans deficit grew to 18 points. The Rams cruised to a 72-58 victory handing the Trojans their second consecutive loss.
Allen Harris finished with 12 points adding to
Christopher Grier's 15 points. VSU's bench was led by
James Vann and
Richard Hall. Both guards combined for 16 points as
Richard Hall hit two shots from three-point range and
James Vann was 4 for 9 from the field with four rebounds.
VSU slips to 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the CIAA conference. The Trojans head to Salisbury, NC on Saturday, Jan. 12
th against Livingstone College at 7:30 p.m.
