Virginia State University's men's basketball team two game winning streak came to an end when #11 Barton College came to Daniel Gymnasium on Thursday, November 29th and defeated the Trojans.  The Trojans came up short for the upset, losing 67-59.

The Trojans fought hard the whole game. They played tough defense making every shot for the Bulldogs of Barton College a difficult one, however they just could not get a descent hold of the lead.

VSU shot 50% in the first half from the field and senior guard Mike Bynum lead the team with 8 points, knocking down two big three pointers.  For Barton senior guard Gerald Boston lead the way with 15 points, scoring in a variety of ways.  Although, in the second half a lot of things changed and the Trojans held Boston to only four points in the second half.  The Trojans made a run and came within two points of taking the lead from Barton.  However the 11th ranked team in the country found a way to grind out the game for the win.

Both teams turned the ball over 15 times but what stopped the Trojans chances of winning the game was their inability to make shots.  The Trojans in the second half shot 39% from the field, while their opponent shot 49%.

Despite the lost, the Trojans had a balanced scoring attack with four players reaching double figures. Leading the team in scoring was big man Kenny Mitchell 16 points and 8 rebounds. The other three players Christopher Grier, Mike Bynum, and Devonte Williams each had 10 points.

The Trojans (2-3) next game is against the Newport News Apprentice School at home on Tuesday December 11, 2012.
