Trojans Fall To Falcons, 68-54

The Trojans trailed St Augustine's by 23 points early in the game but battled to the end making the game competitive against the Falcons in a 68-54 loss. DeVonte' Williams (freshman/Hampton, VA) scored 10 points with a game-high 9 rebounds and Kenny Mitchell (junior/Stone Mountain, GA) led the Trojans scoring with 12 points.

Virginia State fell behind 17-7 six minutes into the game. St. Augustine's scored 11 points by forcing Virginia State to make 10 first half turnovers. The Trojans went cold from the field, shooting 7 of 22 (32%) and trailed 44-23 at the half. Williams scored 7 points to lead Virginia State's first half scoring including going 3 for3 from the free-throw line.

The Trojans found ways to chip at the Falcons second half lead by drawing fouls and getting to the free-throw line. Virginia State went 20 for 29 from the line, behind aggressive post play from their front-court. Both Kevin Wiggins (sophomore/Norfolk, VA) and Kenny Mitchell went 6 for 6 from the free-throw line in the second half allowing the Trojans to pull within 13 points of the Falcons, but VSU was unable to come away with consistent offense losing their eighth straight game.

Jon Kindred scored 17 points and Jeremy Banks added 15 points to lead the Falcons scoring. St. Augustine's shot 45% and outrebounded Virginia State 40-29.

The Trojans (1-13, 0-4) will look to bounce back at home with a win on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. against Livingstone College.
