Mitchell Carries the Load For Trojans in Blowout Road Loss to Vikings

<font size="2">The Trojans&rsquo; defense allowed 11 three-pointers and offensively had 23 turnovers in an 87-55 loss to the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) at the RL Vaughan Center on Saturday, Jan. 28. Kenny Mitchell (junior/ Stone Mountain, GA) reached double-figures in a great effort for the Trojans scoring 23 points with 9 rebounds, both game highs.<br /> <br /> Kenny Mitchell scored the first two baskets of the game before the Vikings quickly caught fire from the field springing out to a 15-8 run. The Vikings shot a blazing 60% in the first half draining six three-pointers. The Trojans trailed by 22 (32-10) with 10:03 remaining in the half. The Trojans were cold from the field shooting 36% with no made treys in the first half. Mitchell paced the Trojans scoring in the first half with 6 of 11 made in the paint for 15 points, but the Trojans trailed 47-28.<br /> <br /> Virginia State cut the lead to 17 (47-30) on a Daniel Awosanya (junior/ London, England) jumper early in the second half. The Vikings began to drop one three-pointer after another to go ahead comfortably by 32 points in a blowout win for Elizabeth City State on their Winter Homecoming. ECSU&rsquo;s Angelo Sharpless led with 21 points and Glenn Patterson followed with five treys for 17 points.<br /> <br /> Kenny Mitchell scored a game-high 23 points on 9 of 18 from the field. Shawn Porter (freshman/ Chesapeake, VA) emerged for the Trojans along with Mitchell reaching double-figures with 11 points from off the bench. Ibn Rassoull (senior/ East Orange, NJ) knocked down 2 treys for the Trojans adding 8 points with 4 assists and guard DeVonte&rsquo; Williams (freshman/ Hampton, VA) led the Trojans with 5 assists.<br /> <br /> The Trojans will host Bowie State on Monday, Jan. 30 in Daniel Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. </font><br />
