Norfolk, Va. (Apr. 5, 2025)- Sixteen Trojans earned top 10 finishes as the Virginia State University Women's Track & Field team competed well against Division 1 competitors at the NSU Invitational.
Janiya Harmon competed in the javelin, discuss and shot put. In shot put she won the event with a throw of 11.96 meters, discuss was a bronze finish at 38.21 meters and in javelin a fifth-place finish at 28.39-meter mark. Kenedy Shields coming off an impressive indoor season rode that momentum with a third-place finish in the high jump with a 1.64-meter mark. In the long jump Jaelynn Wynder-Hill jumped 5.42 meters which is the 80th best mark in all of division 2. Wynder-Hill also ran the 100-meter hurdles and holds the 31st best time in division 2 at 15.78 seconds.
Rose Wanjiru Muturi placed second and Ananda Hamlin sixth respectfully in the 1500-meter run. Jayla Greene placed fifth with the 67th best time in division 2 at 12.08 seconds. Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams placed second with 45.58 and 4:17.38 times respectively.
Virginia State will be back in action next Saturday April 12 as they travel to University of Mount Olive for the Trojan Relays.
