Ettrick, Va (Mar. 10, 2025)- The Virginia State University Women's Basketball team will play Edinboro in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
VSU earned an at-large bid as the eighth seed after falling in the championship game of the CIAA Tournament. The Trojans hold a 23-6 overall record. They are led by Anii Harris who averaged 15.2 points and Amesha Miller followed close behind with 14.6 points per game. Carmen Kweti broke the single season rebounding record grabbing 335 rebounds and is fourth in the nation averaging 12 rebounds per game. As a team the Trojans hang their hat on defense only allowing teams to shoot 35.1 % which is 16th in the nation and only giving up 60 points per game.
Edinboro will be the host and the one seed in the tournament. The Fighting Scots hold a 24-6 record and like the Trojans fell in their conference tournament championship game. Four different players average in double figures and one close with 9.2 points per game. Edinboro enters averaging just over 73 points per game which is top-30 in all of NCAA Division 2. They also cause teams to turnover the ball at 18.7 per game. Both teams get to the line around 115 times per game while only allowing their opponents to get 11 attempts at the foul line.
Other teams in the tournament include the MEC Champions Fairmont State, PSAC Champions Kutztown, and CIAA Champions Fayetteville State with at large bids going to Indiana (Pa), Gannon, Seton Hill.
