Ettrick. Va. (Feb. 14, 2025)- Head Coach Ashley Lawrence returns to the sideline for season number two for the Virgiina State Women's Lacrosse team. Last season the team performed well with a 5-6 overall record winning games against University of District Columbia, South Wesleyan, Edinboro, West Virginia Wesleyan and Emory & Henry.
This season starts on Friday February 14 against Division three Mary Washington. Two more home games will follow against the University of Charleston and Wilmington. The Trojans make the trip to UDC this season to continue playing the only other Division 2 HBCU women's lacrosse team. The rest of the schedule includes Barton, St. Thomas Aquinas, Chowan, WVWC and Wheeling at home. Road games include Tiffin, Davis & Elkins and Dominican University New York.
Kayla Carroll-Williams returns after being the team's leading goal scorer with 23 while adding three assists. Jhalin Hooks added 18 goals last season and Jamilah Daniels returns after being second on the team with six assists. Defensively Noel Johnson-Montoya picked up 25 ground balls and had 10 caused turnovers as she captains the backend. The team will welcome new goalie Ilyana Jones as she will get the start in net this season. In total 15 new additions to the team look to bolster a squad that was one game away from .500 in their inaugural season.
