Trojans Roll Past West Virginia Wesleyan, 13-3

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Virginia State University women's lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday afternoon, defeating West Virginia Wesleyan, 13-3, in a wire-to-wire victory.

After conceding the game's opening goal, the Trojans quickly settled in and took control before the end of the first quarter. Goals from Sophia Toye, Bryelle Small, and Nakiyah Jones sparked a 3-0 run that gave Virginia State a 3-1 advantage after one period.

Virginia State continued to build momentum in the second quarter, capitalizing on multiple player-up opportunities. Unique Anthony opened the scoring in the period, while Jones and Small each added goals to extend the Trojans' lead to 6-2 heading into halftime.

The third quarter proved to be the decisive stretch, as Virginia State erupted for five goals. Small ignited the run early, and a balanced offensive attack followed with scores from Jones, Carea Tuck, and Aniyah White. Tuck's back-to-back goals highlighted the surge as the Trojans pushed their lead to 11-3.

Tuck continued her standout performance in the fourth quarter, netting two more goals to finish with a game-high four. Her effort, combined with strong defensive play, held West Virginia Wesleyan scoreless in the final period and secured the 13-3 victory.

Virginia State's offense was led by Tuck's four goals and one assist, while Small and Jones each recorded hat tricks. Anthony contributed a goal and an assist, and Toye and White each found the back of the net as well.

Defensively, the Trojans were just as impressive, limiting West Virginia Wesleyan to just nine total shots and forcing 24 turnovers. Goalkeeper Ilyana Jones anchored the defense with three saves in the win.
