YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Virginia State University women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-6 decision to Young Harris on Saturday afternoon at YHC LAX Field.
The Trojans move to 3-9 overall on the season, while Young Harris improves to 11-5 and remains unbeaten in conference play.
Virginia State saw six different players find the back of the net, with goals coming from Carea Tuck, Kayla Carroll-Williams, Nakiyah Jones, Unique Anthony, Milan Poole, and Jhalin Hooks. Tuck also added an assist to lead the team with two points.
Young Harris set the tone early, jumping out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 12-3 at halftime. The Mountain Lions continued their offensive surge in the second half, outscoring the Trojans 9-3 over the final two quarters.
Despite the final score, VSU showed flashes offensively, particularly in the second quarter when Jones and Anthony scored back-to-back goals to cut into the deficit. Tuck opened the third quarter with a goal, and Poole and Hooks added second-half scores to round out the Trojan effort.
Defensively, goalkeeper Ilyana Jones recorded nine saves while facing 35 shots. Emily Shields led the Trojans with five ground balls, while Ilyana Jones added four of her own.
Young Harris was led by Erika Baalam, who scored six goals, while Megan Magill and Mary Troyer each added four and three goals, respectively.
