Columbia, S.C. (March 22, 2024)- The Virginia State University women's track team performed well against multiple Division-1 teams at the Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by South Carolina for a two-day meet.
Aanya Howard finished in seventh overall with a jump of 1.56 meters while Omeika Hogg placed 13th with a jump of 1.51 meters. In the long jump Desairey Gray was the Trojans best performer finishing in 11th place with aa mark of 5.03 meters. Janiya Harmon was the only Trojan in the javelin throwing 24.72 meters for 16th place. Harmon also threw in the discuss on day 2 and she threw a personal best of 37.90 meters for an 11th place finish.
On day two more Trojans hit the track as in the 100-meters prelims Markeria King had a top-20 finish, 20th with a time of 12.26. King also ran a personal best of 25.51 in the 200-meter run. In the 100-meter hurdles the Trojans Jada Starks and Jaelynn Wynder-Hill both had top-20 finishes 14th and 18th respectfully. In the 800-meter run Emoni Coleman finished in 10th place with a time of 2:21.83. Rose Muturi obtained the only first place finish for the Trojans as she ran 17:56.96 in the 5000-meter run.
Next the team will get ready for the Norfolk State University Invitational on April 5 and 6.
