BALTIMORE, MD - As the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) prepares to kick-off the 2023 CIAA Men's Basketball Tournament, the conference announced the 2023 All-CIAA Men's Basketball Team on Monday afternoon in the CIAA Men's and Women's Tip-Off Awards.
Representing the Trojans in the CIAA Backcourt is Senior, Danville, VA native
Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald.
Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald is the CIAA's 2023 three-point champion leading the conference with 67 made three-pointers shooting 42.4% from beyond the arc. He also continues to consistently stuff the stat sheet as he ranks second on the team in assists with 70 (9
th in CIAA). Fitzgerald has been committed to crashing the boards this season despite spending most of his time beyond the three-point arc as 7.2 rebounds per game leads the team (4th in CIAA). The sharpshooting rebounder averages 15.6 points per game (4
th in CIAA). He also ties for 14
th in the CIAA with 13 blocks.
Fitzgerald and the VSU men's basketball team will open postseason play at the CIAA Basketball Tournament on February 23 as a No. 3-seed facing the winner between Lincoln (Pa.) and Johnson C. Smith in the quarterfinals. Tip-off is set for 6:00pm at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, MD.
