BALTIMORE, MD --The Virginia State men's basketball team got a 26-point performance from the bench, but fell 71-66 to the Bluefield State Big Blues at CFG Bank Arena Friday.
The Trojans (20-10) had four players score in double figures, led by Jacob Cooper, who had 12 points, four assists and three steals. Jared White tacked on 12 points off the bench and Davian Coleman chipped in as well with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Led by William Hopkins' three offensive rebounds, Virginia State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 18 boards that resulted in 13 second chance points.
Virginia State did a great job disrupting Bluefield State shots in the contest, coming away with eight blocks. Coleman's five rejections led the way individually for the Trojans.

Virginia State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 27-16 heading into halftime.
Bluefield State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 44-30 advantage before Virginia State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Hopkins' three, to shrink the deficit to 44-35 with 9:59 to go in the contest. The Trojans kept their comeback going, but Bluefield State managed to hold on for the 71-66 win. Virginia State took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 50 points in the lane.
