WINSTON – SALEM, NC- The Virginia State women's indoor track and field teams is set to compete in the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) Championships this weekend, as they seek their first conference indoor title since the 2018-2019 season.
Top Performers
Glenda Jenkins (Sprints) – Last time out, Jenkins placed first in the 60-meter preliminaries behind her time of 7.77 before she doubled back in the finals posting a personal best 7.74 which placed her second. She was also able to place fifth in the 200 with a personal best 25.69 against the elite competition in the 2023 Liberty Open. Her recent 7.74 finish in the 60-meter dash gives her the third best time in the CIAA.
Desairey Gray (Sprints/Jumps) – In the recent Liberty Open, Gray placed third in the 400 behind her personal best time of 58.09 as she also placed seventh in the Triple Jump after her best jump covered a personal best 10.72 meters. As just a freshman, Gray has the fourth best time in the CIAA in the 400 after her recent 58.09 in the Liberty Open. She also has the fourth best mark in the Long Jump as well with her 5.30-meter jump earlier this season in the Marlin Invitational.
Emoni Coleman (Distance)
– Coleman was able to post a 2:21.93 finish in the Liberty Open after which allowed her to place sixth in the finals in the Liberty Open. In just her first season in the CIAA, Coleman currently holds the top mark in the CIAA in the 800 after posting a 2:20.72 in the Vince Brown Invitational earlier this season. She also holds the third best time after her performance in the Marlin Invitational after posting a 5:37.72.
Jaelynn Wynder-Hill (Sprints) – Wynder – Hill had quite a showing to end the regular season as she was able to post a personal best 9.28 in the 60-meter hurdles which placed her third in the preliminaries. She came back to place second in the finals with a time of 9.32 in the Liberty Open. Her personal best time of 9.28 in the Liberty Open gives her the fifth best time in the CIAA in the 60-meter hurdles.
Aanya Howard (Jumps) – Last time out, Howard placed fourth in the High Jump after posting a 1.55-meter jump and also posted a 22
nd place finish in the Long Jump with her best jump covering 4.71 meters in the Liberty Open. She currently has the fourth best mark in the CIAA High Jump with her 1.55-meter leap.
Manuelene Deigh (Distance) –
In the Liberty Open, Deigh placed 16th behind her time of 11:26.77. Your 2022 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year currently ranks fourth in the CIAA in the 3000 after posting an 11:13.94 in the VMI Invitational.
Janiya Harmon (Throws) –
In just her Freshman season, Janiya Harmon has the second-best toss in the CIAA with her 12.14-meter throw in the Vince Brown Invitational.
