WINSTON – SALEM, NC- The Virginia State men's indoor track and field teams is set to compete in the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) Championships this weekend, as they look to win back-to-back CIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Top Performers
Jaelan Black (Sprints) – Last time out, Black placed sixth in the 200-meter finals behind his personal best time of 22.28. He was also able to place 12th in the 60-meter dash with a 7.11 against the elite competition in the 2023 Liberty Open. His recent 22.28 finish in the 200-meter dash gives him the seventh best time in the CIAA.
Jalen Brownlee (Distance) – In the recent Liberty Open, Brownlee placed 32nd in the Mile run behind his time of 4:40.83 in the 2023 Liberty Open. Brownlee has the fourth best time in the CIAA in the Mile run after his recent 4:40.83 in the Liberty Open. He also has the second best time in the conference in the 3000 after posting a 9:23.52 in the Vince Brown Invitational.
Gabriel Miles (Distance)
– Miles placed 30th in the 800 behind his personal best time of 2:05.89 last time out in the 2023 Liberty Open. He currently has the sixth best time in the CIAA in the Mile run after posting a 4:45.47 in the Vince Brown Invitational.
Kavante Dawson (Sprints) – Dawson showed out in the 2023 Liberty Open. He placed fifth the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries with a 8.55 before placing third with a career-high 8.28 in the finals. He currently has the fastest 60-meter hurdles time in the CIAA with his recent 8.28 in the finals of the 2023 Liberty Open.
Joseph Briscoe (Jumps) – Briscoe tied for fourth in the High Jump with a 1.85-meter leap in the 2023 Liberty Open. His best jump of the season occupies the third spot on the CIAA leaderboard after his 1.95-meter jump in the VMI Invitational.
Shaukeeme Mitchell-Watson (Jumps) – Mitchell-Watson tied for fourth in the 2023 Liberty Open with his best leap being over 1.85-meter mark. He has the eighth best high jump in the conference this season after this 1.87-meter jump earlier this season in the VMI Invitational.
Atrell Williams (Throws) – Williams posted his sixth top-five finish recently in the 2023 Liberty Open. His best throw covered 15.02 which allowed him to place third. No one in the CIAA has had a better throw than
Atrell Williams as his 15.26-meter throw in the Vince Brown Invitational places him firmly atop of the CIAA standings.
Devonte Moore (Throws) – Competed last in the Vince Brown Invitational where he posted a 15.02-meter shot put throw which gave him the second best throw in the CIAA.
Isaiah Ramadane (Throws) – Ramadane placed fifth in the 2023 Liberty Open shot put competition after his best throw covered 14.00 meters. Ramadane's personal best 14.80-meter toss in the Vince Brown Invitational currently ranks third in the CIAA shot put.
