WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Virginia State Men's Track and Field team placed fifth in the CIAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships after finishing with 79 points.
Shot Put
No different than the rest of the season, the Throwers shined the brightest as the CIAA saw
Atrell Williams become the Indoor Track and Field Shot Put champion for the second straight season after posting a 15.63 – meter show.
Devonte Moore placed second after his best throw covered 14.74 meters.
Mark Banberger made his presence felt after posting a personal best 13.72 – meter throw.
Isaiah Ramadane placed fifth after his 13.63 – meter throw.
60 Meters
Jaelan Black finished his preliminary race in a personal best 7.04 which placed him seventh (of 11). He came back in the finals and completed the finals in an identical 7.04 which placed him seventh again.
200 Meters
Jaelan Black was able to sprint his way to a fourth-place (of 24) finish in the preliminaries behind his time of 22.37.
Jahaz Morgan earned a personal best 22.78 as he finished 11
th.
800 Meters
Gabriel Miles placed 10
th (of 18) in the 800-meter preliminaries behind his time of 2:07.81.
Jalen Brownlee placed 18
th after finishing in 2:47.07.
Mile
Jalen Brownlee placed third (of 12) after finishing in 4:42.60.
Gabriel Miles ran himself into a personal best as well behind him time of 4:46.23 which placed him fourth.
5000
Gabriel Miles posted his second personal best of the season after finishing in 17:22.65 which placed him fifth.
Jalen Brownlee finished a place behind his teammate in sixth after posing a 17:51.25.
60-Meter Hurdles
Kavante Dawson finished fifth (of 12) in the preliminaries after finishing in 8.52.
John Williams was able to finish his race in 8.71 which placed him eighth. Dawson went on to finish third in the finals behind his time of 8.31 while Williams was able to post a personal best 8.68 which placed him seventh.
Distance Medley Relay
The relay team made up of
Jalen Brownlee,
Jaelan Black,
Savion Spencer and
Gabriel Miles placed fifth while posting an 11:50.30.
High Jump
Joseph Briscoe brought home the Bronze medal (of 12) as his best jump covered 1.93 meters. Shaukeeme Mitchell-Watson tied for fifth behind his personal best 1.88-meter jump.
Long Jump
Jahaz Morgan was able to cover 6.90 meters which placed him fourth (of 26). Shaukeeme Mitchell-Watson was able to tie for 10
th with his 6.49-meter jump.
Joseph Briscoe posted a personal best 6.19 – meter jump which placed him 18
th.
Triple Jump
Jahaz Morgan earned his second personal best after her best jump covered 14.58 meters which placed him second. Desairey Gray's best jump covered 10.33 meters which placed her 14
th.
