VSU Men's Indoor Track and Field Show Significant Improvement in VMI Invitational

LEXINGTON, VA – Head Coach Frank Hyland led his team in the second indoor track and field meet of the season as the team show significant strides just a week removed form their season opening meet.
 
 
60 Meters
Jaelan Black placed second in his heat and 22nd overall in the preliminaries of his first ever 60-meter competition. Isreal Watkins placed 34th in the preliminaries after clocking a 7.25. Joel Bowers placed 32nd after finishing in 7.23 in the preliminaries. Black would go on to place 22nd in the semifinals behind a time of 7.18.
 
 
200 Meters
Jaelan Black went on to place 26th of 40 finishing in 23.26 in his first 200.

 
400 Meters
Joel Bowers won his heat after posting a 50.81 which placed him 18th of 38. Isreal Watkins placed 36th behind his time of 56.16 while John Williams placed 38th finishing in 59.78.
 

1000
Gabriel Miles finished 12th with a time of 2:46.18.
 
Mile
Gabriel Miles was able to place 18th after finishing in 4:48.33.
 
60 (Hurdles)
John Williams placed 14th after posting a time of 8.88.
 
4x400
The VSU Men's 4x400 team comprised of Joel Bowers, Jaelan Black, Tariq Garrison and Jahaz Morgan placed tenth after ending their race in 3:37.71.
 
High Jump
Joseph Briscoe placed third of 10 competitors after his best jump got up to 1.97 meters. Shaukeeme Mitchell-Watson's best jump was 1.87 meters which placed him fifth.
 
Long Jump
Jahaz Morgan best jump covered 6.57 meters which placed him 10th.
 
Shot Put
The throwers once again shined this weekend. Last week's CIAA Field Athlete of the Week Atrell Williams threw a season-best 15.02 meters which placed him second of 25 throwers. Devonte Moore threw an indoor personal best with a 14.79-meter throw which placed him third. Isaiah Ramadane finished sixth with a 13.84-meter throw. Christian Boone won his flight and placed 12 overall with a personal best 12.49-meter throw while Freshman Chalmus Burgees placed 15th after his throw that covered 11.39 meters.
 
Next Up
The Trojans will return to action on January 20-21 at the Marlin Invitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College. The 2-day meet will take place at the Virginia Beach Sports Center, home of the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships.
