ETTRICK, VA- Virginia State University and the Department of Athletics named
Anthony Andrews its Inaugural Head Coach of the VSU Women's Soccer team.
"I am beyond excited to be the inaugural head coach of the VSU women's soccer team, "said Andrews. I would like to thank the staff at VSU for giving me the opportunity; the coaches who mentored me along the way (Andy Ashcroft, Todd Olsen, Kyle Alexander, Amy Dahlin, Steve Bowman), my family for all of their love and support throughout my coaching journey, and God (ABBA). The journey to creating a championship soccer program will take hard work, but I am eager to put in the time and care necessary to see my vision for this team come into fruition."
Prior to his arrival at VSU, Coach Andrews made stops at New Covenant Christian School (Lynchburg, VA) , Heritage High School (Lynchburg, VA) , Jefferson Forest High School (Bedford, VA) , Sweet Briar College (Amherst, VA), and Soccer Shots (Atlanta, GA). Coach Andrews has several years of coaching experience, ranging from U12 youth-soccer, high school men's and women's soccer, women's collegiate soccer, and men's club league soccer.
A Lynchburg, Virginia native, Coach Andrews earned his Bachelor's Degree from Liberty University where he studied Elementary-Education.
Coach Andrews intends to bring his passion, enthusiasm and knowledge to Virginia State to create champions on and off the field. He is overwhelmed with excitement about bringing a new sports opportunity to the Virginia State University Community. He hopes to grow the game of soccer in the 804 area and provide kids in surrounding areas motivation to play Soccer.
"Firstly, I must make it know to potential players on VSU's campus that Women's Soccer is available. I hope to build young leaders on and off the field while compiling wins along the way. I look to provide expert level coaching to committed student-athletes and build the VSU Women's Soccer team brick by brick".
The Virginia State Women's Soccer team will compete in their Inaugural season in the spring of 2023.
