PITTSBURGH, Pa.(Nov. 16, 2025) — Virginia State Women's Soccer secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Shaw University on Sunday afternoon. The Trojans in their inaugural season in the USCAA, have hoisted the Division 1 National Championship
Freshman AJ Clarke delivered the difference-maker in the 38th minute, burying a shot off a clean feed from Skye Dixon following a corner sequence. The goal — Clarke's first in a VSU uniform — capped a strong opening half in which the Trojans generated five shots and four corners.
While the offense provided the early spark, the story of the afternoon was the Trojans' defensive grit, anchored by goalkeeper Tianna Roberts who posted a stellar 10-save shutout, turning away wave after wave of Shaw pressure as the Bears fired 13 total shots and controlled much of the second-half possession.
Shaw surged after the break, out-shooting VSU 10–1 in the final 45 minutes and earning four second-half corner kicks. But each time the Bears threatened, Roberts stood tall — including crucial stops in the 52nd, 60th, 62nd, and 80th minutes.
Virginia State finished with six shots and five corners while matching Shaw in total corner opportunities (5–5). The Trojans held their lead through a physical, fast-paced final stretch to secure their second straight clean sheet.
