Coraopolis, Pa. (Nov. 14, 2025) — The Virginia State University Women's Soccer team delivered its most commanding performance of the season on Friday afternoon, rolling to a 5–0 victory over the University of Maine–Fort Kent in the opening round of USCAA Championship play at AHN Montour Junction.
The Trojans (6-10-1) wasted no time setting the tone, scoring twice in the first eight minutes and never looking back. Playing inspired soccer in their postseason debut, VSU controlled possession, capitalized on early chances, and anchored themselves with an elite defensive effort from start to finish.
Fast Start Fuels Trojans
VSU's attacking unit struck quickly as Alana Martin opened the scoring just 2:10 into the match, intercepting a pass and finishing unassisted for the early 1–0 lead.
Just five minutes later, Tatyana Carroll doubled the advantage with another unassisted strike in the 7th minute, giving the Trojans control before the match even settled in.
Momentum swung even further in VSU's favor at the 11:32 mark when UMFK's Lillian Clarke was issued a red card, forcing the Bengals to play a man down for the remainder of the match.
The Trojans continued pressing and were rewarded moments before halftime when Loryn Sturgis scored in the 44th minute, sending VSU into the break holding a dominant 3–0 lead.
Parris and Clarke Seal the Victory
The pressure continued early in the second half, and senior Morgan Parris made it 4–0 in the 48th minute after a strong individual effort put her one-on-one with the keeper.
Freshman AJ Clarke capped the scoring in the 53rd minute, burying VSU's fifth unassisted goal of the day.
In total, five different Trojans found the back of the net as VSU produced one of its most balanced offensive performances of the season.
Roberts Records Clean Sheet
While the offense flourished, goalkeeper Tianna Roberts delivered a standout performance with 10 saves, repeatedly denying UMFK throughout the second half as the Bengals generated 11 shots after the break.
The clean sheet marks Roberts' first collegiate shutout and the team's second of the season.
