ETTRICK, VA – The Virginia State softball program enjoyed its first-ever individual NCAA statistical champion in triples per game as rising sophomore Alaijah Pratt captured the honors for the 2022 season. In 2017, the VSU softball team earned the honor after leading the nation in doubles per game (2.35).

"We are so proud of Alaijah," said Assistant Coach Rasheeda Crews. "She was a huge part of the teams overall success this past season! She is a great young lady and stellar softball player."
 
Pratt, who produced seven triples in 2022 to tie for second in program single - season history, averaged .23 doubles per game to claim the national title. Pratt saw no competition in the category as the second place winners averaged .19 triples per contest (Brooklin Bain - Oklahoma Christian, Melissa Konopinski -  Franklin Pierce).
 
VSU's super freshman earned CIAA Rookie of the Week honors twice and was also named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team. Pratt was also recognized as Rookie of the Year on a talented young VSU softball.

While Pratt saw success from every angle on the field whether it be pitching or fielding, she provided a reliable bat in the lineup as she ranked second in the conference with a ridiculous .446 batting average. Pratt ranked within the top-10 in eight categories and ranked within the top-25 in the country in three categories. The young prodigy ended up second in the conference and tied for 11th nationally in triples. She managed to boast hitting streaks of 12 games and 10 games all in one season. Pratt was also a nightmare on the base paths going 8-8 in stolen bases which ranked her second on the team. 
 
Pratt is the Virginia State Athletic Department's first NCAA statistical champion since 2018, when Trojan outfielder Jahleel Sewer led all Division II hitters in doubles per game.
