ETTRICK, VA (February 21, 2022)- As the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) prepares to kick-off its first in-person basketball tournament since 2020, they announce the 2021-22 All-CIAA Men's Basketball Team on Monday afternoon.
Representing the VSU Trojans are juniors Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald and Terrance Hunter-Whitfield.
Fitzgerald, a guard from Danville, VA, is a multi-category stat leader for the Trojans. Averaging 17.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, Fitzgerald lived up to his anticipated season performance ranking him 3
rd in CIAA scoring. Alongside leading VSU in scoring, he grasped 26 offensive and 104 defensive rebounds. Fitzgerald also secured 19 steals, 19 blocks and 37 assists.
Hunter-Whitfield, a forward from Chesterfield, VA, has made an impact for VSU this season. Averaging 13.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, #22 proved that 2022 was is his year. In addition to leading the Trojans in boards with 48 offensive and 124 defensive rebounds and being ranked 7
th in the CIAA for boards, Hunter-Whitfield also collected 4 blocks, 27 steals and 37 assists.
Fitzgerald, Hunter-Whitfield and the VSU men's basketball team will open postseason play at the CIAA Basketball Tournament on February 22 against Claflin University. Tip-off is set for 6:40pm at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, MD.
