VSU Volleyball Take on Bowie State in Final Regular Season Contest

BOWIE, MD – The Trojans look forward to ending their regular season on a high note as they attempt to spoil the senior night of the Bulldogs of Bowie State. The matchup is set for Monday, October 31 at 6:00 p.m. in A.C. Jordan arena.

Last Time Out
The Trojans fought hard to stay in the match but was swept by the Bears of Shaw 3-0. Kennedy Hoge and Helena Eubanks led the team with eight kills in the match while Amaya Cooper was able to account for five. Kennedy Hoge also led the team while a pair of service aces as Helena Eubanks and Emma Quarles each added one. Yet again, Kelsea Saulny played above the net as she led the match with four blocks while Leyla Conley added three blocks. Emma Quarles led the team with 15 assists while Makenzy Johnson was a few away with 10. Najlaa Williams earned 20 or more digs for the third time this season leading the match with 21 while the Swiss Army Knife Kennedy Hoge added eight.
 
 
Series History
The Trojans are 19-0 against the Bulldogs since 2012 with the last match being a 3-0 sweep earlier this season. The Trojans have only allowed the Bulldogs to win two sets in 19 matches.
 
 
 
Trojans Leaders
Helena Eubanks leads the offensive side for the Trojans as she has a team-high 235 kills which would rank her third in the CIAA. Amaya Cooper with 213 kills, Alexis McNair with 131 kills, and Zaria Irons with 101 kills are the other three Trojans with triple-digits kills on the season. While having the second most attack attempts, Cooper is also second on the team with a .240 hitting percentage. Emma Quarles leads the Trojans in assists with 448 while Makenzy Johnson is not far behind with 357. Makenzy Johnson leads the team in service aces with 35. Defensively, Najlaa Williams is having a historic year as she leads the Trojans with a team-high 421 digs averaging 4.05 per set along with a .898 receiving percentage. Her 421 digs leads the conference and puts her second in the all-time single season leaderboard. Kennedy Hoge is second on the team in digs with 211. Amaya Cooper leads the Trojans in blocks 54 which would place her fourth in blocks in the CIAA. As a team the Trojans are second in points (1,469), assists (948), kills (1,078) and blocks (158). They currently lead the CIAA in service aces (233) and digs (1,437).
 
 
Scouting the Opponent – Bowie State
The Bears are coming into match with a record of 10-11 (6-9 CIAA) which allows then to sit at fourth in the Northern Division. On the offensive side, they are led by Jailyn Ivey who has a team-high 206 kills which ranks her fifth in the CIAA. Lindsey Grossman leads the team in assists with 352 averaging 4.63 per set. Charity Harris leads the team with 33 service aces. Defensively, Neysha Washington leads the team with a team-high 197 digs while Kendal Hoges leads the team in blocks with 47.
