ETTRICK, VA – The VSU Volleyball team looks to keep the consistency rolling as they return to play following a successful weekend at the first CIAA Volleyball Roundup in Bowie, MD. The squad finished the weekend winning two out of their three matches sweeping Livingstone University and Claflin University 3-0 but lost to Fayetteville State 1-3. They are now set to travel over to Elizabeth City, NC to face off against division foe Elizabeth City State who is currently undefeated in the conference and first in the Northern Division. The match is slatted for on Monday October 3.

This past weekend, the Trojans participated in the first CIAA Volleyball Roundup of the season facing off against Livingstone, Fayetteville State, and Claflin. They ended the weekend going 2-1 with two wins ending in 3-0 sweeps against Livingstone and Claflin. Their lone loss came against Fayetteville State with the Trojans losing 1-3. Offensively,
Amaya Cooper led the Trojans in kills for the weekend with 22.

Zaria Irons tied for second on the team with 17 kills apiece.
Emma Quarles led the team in total assists with 43.
Makayla Berry had a career weekend as she had a career-high in kills against Livingstone with seven and what was at that moment a career-high in digs with 14 but she ended up breaking that career-high with 17 digs two matches later against Claflin. Defensively, Berry ended up leading the Trojans in total digs with 40 throughout the weekend with
Najlaa Williams coming in second in total digs by turning in her usual great performance for the weekend with 39. Conley led the Trojans in total blocks with eight which helped her earn CIAA Volleyball Rookie of the Week honors as she amassed 31 points, 20 kills, eight total blocks, seven digs and four service aces in the first CIAA Volleyball Roundup hosted by Bowie State.

The Trojans are 18-2 all-time versus Elizabeth City State in matchups dating back to 2012 as their last match ended witht the Vikings sweeping the Trojans 0-3 earlier this season. .

Helena Eubanks leads the Trojans offense as she has a team-high 126 kills on the season while
Amaya Cooper is second on the team with 124. The Trojans dynamic duo of

Emma Quarles lead the team in assists with Johnson having a team-high 253 while Quarles in a close second with 220 assists. Johnson also leads the team with 25 service aces. Defensively,
Najlaa Williams leads the Trojans with a team-high and CIAA best 219 digs with 3.48 digs per set and a .917 serve reception percentage.
Kennedy Hoge is second in digs on the team with 113 with a .914 reception percentage. Cooper and Conley lead the charge in blocks on the team with Cooper having 37 and Conley having 36. As a team, the Trojans are second in the CIAA in kills with 583 averaging 9.52 kills per set. They are also second in the CIAA in total digs with 792. The Trojans also lead the conference with 99 blocks on the season averaging 1.57 per set while also leading in service aces with 113 averaging 1.79 per set.

The Vikings are offensively led by Jada Rouse who has a team-high 168 kills which also leads the CIAA. Elizabeth Kellum is second in the conference in kills with 147 and second on the team in assists with 266. Defensively, Naijya Leggett currently leads the CIAA with 223 digs. Clarke Blakemore leads the team in blocks with 51. As a team, the Vikings lead the CIAA in both kills and digs with 605 kills averaging 11.63 per set and 803 digs averaging 15.44 per set.
