NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Virginia State men's indoor track and field traveled down to the Freedom center in Newport News to take part in the Vince Brown Invitational.

60 Meters
Jaelan Black got off to a hot start after placing first in his heat in the preliminaries with a 7.15.
Christian Randolph finished second in his heat as well posting a 7.31.
Isreal Watkins came in second place in his preliminary race with a 7.18. Black went on to record a personal best of an 7.02 which placed him fourth in the semifinals. Watkins broke his previous personal record after finishing in 7.14, which gave him a ninth place finish.
Christian Randolph finished 21
st with his 7.33 finish.
Jaelan Black's time was good enough to allow him to compete in the finals in which he placed fourth in behind a 7.05 time.
200 Meters
Tariq Garrison finished first of all Trojans in seventh place with a 23.34 which was a new personal best for him. Joel Bowers came a place behind in eighth while finishing in 23.40. Isreal Watkins posted a 23.95, which placed him 20th. Christian Randolph was able to place 30th with a 24.22 finish.
400 Meters
Tariq Garrison earned himself his second personal best of the day behind a 51.42 finish which placed him second of 34 runners. Dacarai Clark finished in third place posting a 51.60. Joel Bowers was able to finish in 51.85, which placed him in sixth. Next came Bryce Jordan who finished ninth with his 53.17 finish.
800 Meters
The super freshman,
Jalen Brownlee, finished in second place with a 2:03.40.
Elijah Johnson posted his first of two personal bests on the day with his 2:07.15 finish, which placed him fifth.
Savion Spencer finished a few places behind in eighth with his 2:09.90 time.
Mile
Jalen Brownlee posted a personal best, 4:34.29 finish, which placed him in sixth place. Elijah Johnson earned a personal best as well with his 4:49.26 finish which placed him 13th. Owen Mahadeo completed his first career race and finished in 5:01.32 which gave him a 19th place finish. Darrell Dyson, II placed 22nd and finished in 5:08.79.

Gabriel Miles finished 20
th with a 10:57.64.
60 Hurdles
Badr Mahmoud finished his preliminary race in fourth while posting an 8.81. John Williams finished his first collegiate race in 9.05, which placed him eighth. John Butler completed his first college race in 9.34 along with a 12th place finish. Mahmoud was able to place sixth in the finals with a 9.30 while Williams posted a 9.76, which placed him seventh.
High Jump
John Butler tied for third place with his best jump being a 5'10.
Pole Vault
Terry Morgan placed fourth as his best rep covered 10 feet.
Long Jump
John Butler placed ninth with his best jump covering 6.09 meters. John Williams's best jump covered 5.45 meters, which placed him 16th.
Shot Put
Atrell Williams posted a personal best 15.55 meters, which placed him first. Isaiah Ramadane's best throw covered 13.51 meter, which placed him third. Christian Boone placed fourth in his first collegiate meet with his best throw covering 12.60 meters. Mark Banberger placed eighth in his first meet with his best throw covering 12.23 meters.
Triple Jump
Emmanuel Oguntoye placed first as his best jump covered 14.14 meters.

The Trojans will compete in the Liberty Open in Lynchburg, Virginia on Saturday, January 30 which will be the final tune up before the CIAA Indoor Track and Field Championship.
