CHARLOTTE, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) released on Monday the Food Lion Men's and Women's basketball Weekly Honors for Week eight.
 
Food Lion Women's Player of the Week, Shayla Sweeney, averaged 18 points and seven rebounds over two games while shooting 55% from the field and 83% at the free throw line. The Pennsauken, NJ native posted a career-high 24 points, eight rebounds, and a game-high two blocks in the Trojans overtime victory over Johnson C. Smith. In addition to JCSU, Sweeney and the Trojans also defeated in-state conference rival Virginia Union to move their conference win total to five.

VSU will prepare for a midweek matchup against Shaw University this Wednesday, January 19. The contest will take place in the VSU Multipurpose center at 5:30 p.m.
