Charlottesville, N.C. (May 6, 2021) - The Virginia State University Women's Outdoor Track & Field team traveled to Charlottesville, VA to compete in the Virginia Grand Prix where the woman's team represented VSU in five events. The meet took place at the Lannigan Field on the campus of the University of Virginia. The Trojans competed against the likes of Norfolk State, Syracuse, Liberty, South Carolina along with a handful of other division one and three programs. The USA as well as Turks and Caicos were represented in the meeting also.

Track
Virginia State had three sprinters set personal records in the 100 – meter dash. Junior
Glenda Jenkins set a personal record after her 12.31 sprint to the finish line against some of the best talents in the country. Freshman
Shakell Williams shattered her previous personal best after posting a 12.74. The third personal record came from Freshman
Charnae Merrell who ended up finishing in 12.90.Â
The Trojans lone representative in the 100 hurdles was Senior
Ania Thomas who ended up setting a personal best posting a 15.04.
 Jenkins finished first of the VSU sprinters in the 200 as she posted a 25.73 and placed fifth after finishing second in her section. Merrell finished two places behind Jenkins in seventh after finishing in 26.19. Rounding out the event for Virginia State was Williams who completed her race in 26.74.
Sophomore
Alandina Hyppolite finished the 800 in 2:25.14.Â
The 4x100 team consisting of sophomore
Jordan Burzynski, Jenkins, Williams, and Merrell rounded the track in 48.58.Â

Up NextÂ
The Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field teams will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina to compete in the Aggie Classic Twilight. The meet will take place Saturday, April 16 at 10 a.m.
