Greensboro, N.C. (May 16, 2021) - The Virginia State University Men's Outdoor Track & Field team traveled to Greensboro, NC to compete in the Aggie Classic Twilight where the men's team represented Virginia State in four events. The meet took place at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of the North Carolina A&T University. The Trojans competed against the likes of William & Mary, Florida A&M, Virginia Military Institute, Coppin State along with a handful of other division one and two programs. There were a couple unattached runners and independent teams in attendance as well.
 
 
Track
 
After winning his heat in the 100 - meter dash, freshman Trelee Banks-Rose placed eighth of 41 sprinters overall after finishing in 10.73 in the prelims, he went on to record a 10.66 in the finals. Banks-Rose has not placed lower than 10^th in prelims and finals in the 2021 season. Fellow freshman, Victor Smith finished 14^th after posting a 10.83.
 
The 200 saw Banks-Rose finish 11^th of 29 contenders in the 200, he posted a 21.76, which won his heat for the second time on Sunday. Junior Joel Bowers placed 20^th after finishing in 22.43 while Smith finished just .1 second behind Bowers placing 21^st and posting a 22.44.
 
The Trojan relay team including Smith, Banks-Rose, Sophomore Jonathan Gordon and Bowers competed in the 4x100 relay but were disqualified before the end of the race.
 
 
Field
 
Senior Emmanuel Oguntoye was the lone competitor that represented Virginia State in the field events as he covered 14.38m with his triple jump that landed him in third place.
 
 
Up Next
Unfortunately, no one from the Women or Men's side were selected to go to nationals. Due to the pandemic, instead of taking 18-21 student – athletes per event to compete in the National Championship, this year the committee decided to take just the top 14 of each event and a handful of Trojans fell just short of the cutoff.
