VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia State men's indoor track and field team showed out at the KMS Opener Sunday headlined by
Emmanuel Oguntoye's two first place finishes in the Long Jump (6.62m) and the Triple Jump (14.39m) while Shaukeeme Watson took first place in the High Jump in his first collegiate event.

60 Meters
Jaelan Black,
Christopher Pigatt and
Isreal Watkins competed in their first collegiate race as Pignatt finished 10
th place posting a 7.31 while Watkins came in eighth place posting 7.28. Black finished in 7.23, which gave him a sixth place finish in the prelims while also winning his heat. Black finished fifth of the top eight runners in the finals posting a 7.05.
200 Meters
Jaelan Black won his heat yet again after finishing in 22.59, which allowed him to come in third place overall.
Isreal Watkins was not far behind finishing in fifth place after posting a 22.82. Badr Mahmoud was able to place 10
th posting a 23.25 which was also a new personal record for him.
Christopher Pigatt and
Dacarai Clark finished not too far behind posting an identical time of 23.58, which made the two tie for 14
th place. This also a new personal best for Clark as well.
400 Meters
Dacarai Clark, Badr Mahmoud,
Bryce Jordan and
Adryan Payne won their respective heats in the 400. Clark placed second overall finishing in 51:00 while Jordan's new personal best allowed him to tie for third place with a 51.05. Next came
Adryan Payne striding through the line in 51:42, which placed him in sixth place. A place behind Payne was
Tariq Garrison posting a 51:75 in his first collegiate race. Badr Mamoud was able to complete his race in 54.10 which gave him an 11
th place finish.
600 Meters
Joel Bowers was the lone Virginia State representative in the 600 as a 1:28.40 finish allowed him to win his heat, place third and set a new personal record for him self.
800 Meters
Jalen Brownlee was able to finish in second place behind a 2:01.82 finish while
Savion Spencer finished a place behind in third in 2:09.05 in his first collegiate race.
Jordan Guice won his heat with a 2:09.85, which placed with in fourth.
Mile
Jalen Brownlee represented VSU very well in the mile as he finished in second place with a 4:34.68.
60 Hurdles
Badr Mahmoud placed fourth overall in the prelims after posting an 8.86. Mahmoud would cut down his time against faster competition in the finals posting a 8.73, which placed him fourth again.
4x400
The Trojans had two teams compete in the 4x400 relay race, an A-squad and a B-squad. The A-squad, which consisted of
Dacarai Clark,
Bryce Jordan,
Adryan Payne and
Joel Bowers, finished in first place posting a 3:27:08. The B-squad made up of
Tariq Garrison,
Jalen Brownlee,
Isreal Watkins and
Jordan Guice finished just two seconds behind in second place with a 3:29:06.
High Jump
Shaukeeme Watson tied for first in his first collegiate event after clearing a 6'2.75 pole.
Biagio Perrello tied for first with Watson after setting a new personal best after clearing 6'2.75 as well.
Pole Vault
Terry Morgan placed third in the Pole Vault after clearing 10-feet.
Long Jump and Triple Jump
The Moon man himself,
Emmanuel Oguntoye, picked up exactly where he left off from in the outdoor season as he snatched first place in both events. In the Long Jump, Oguntoye covered 21'8.75 feet while covering 47'2.5 feet in the Triple Jump.
Shot Put
Attrell Williams had the best toss of the day covering 15.21 meters, which placed him first in his first collegiate event. In second place came
Devonte Moore whose best throw covered 13.39 meters. Mark Bamberger placed fifth as his best throw covered 12.41.
Isaiah Ramadane had his best throw cover 11.80 meters.

This was the first and last meet of the 2021 season as the Trojans will not compete again until the New Year when they will take part in the VMI Team Invitational January 15 in Lexington, VA.
