BOWIE, MD (May 6, 2018) - The Virginia State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams, under the direction of head coach
Wilbert Johnson, each captured the 2nd place trophy at the 2018 CIAA Championships hosted by Bowie State University on May 5-6.
MEN'S DAY 2 RESULTS
After finishing day 1 with a top standing score of 74, the men's outdoor track and field team finished 2nd overall with a final score of 189.
The Trojans revisited the awards platform in the respective events for day 2.
Tyreece Huff claimed the 1
st place finish in the 5000m with a time 16:26.76.
Jahvante Marcelle maintained his first place spot from day 1 with a final 110m Hurdle time of 14.77.
Also maintaining their spot from day 1 was
Steven Murdock in the 400m dash with a final second place time of 48.04. Also crossing the finish line with a second place finish was
Allen Blair with a 200m time of 21.06. The 4x100 quartet of Darkeem Gray,
Allen Blair,
Steven Murdock, and
Stephen Anderson rounded the track with a second place time of 41.10.8. The 4x400 group of
Steven Murdock,
Milton Coleman-Sledge,
Allen Blair, and
Andre Jackson followed suit with a second place time of 3:12.81.
Emmanuel Oguntoye rounded out the platform finishes for the VSU men with a third place triple jump range of 47'1.5".
The Falcons of St. Augustine's manage to move ahead of the Trojans on day 2 taking the championship title.

WOMEN'S DAY 2 RESULTS
After rounding out day 1 with a first place score of 36, the Trojans collected an overall second place final score of 115.
Making their presence known at the awards platform for day 2, the Trojans collected additional medals.
Leading the women with a first place finish in the discus thrown was
Jeia Gilliam with a range of 168'10".

Claiming a second place finish in their repective events were
Jade Jordan in the high jump (5'7") and
Kyla Frank in the 800m (2:16.03).
Kenya Warner jumped to a third place 110m hurdle finish with a time of 15.43. Also claiming a third place finish were the Trojans 4x100 and 4x400 quartets. In the 4x100,
Zainab Bangura,
Christina Adlam,
Ebonee Byrd and
Niema Riley crossed the finish line with a collective time of 47.24.6, while
Deriel Green,
Zainab Bangura,
Camisha Holmes and
Kyla Frank secured a 4x400 time of 3:56.23.
A consistent championship performance by
Kyla Frank earned her the honor of the 2018 CIAA Women's Track MVP.
The Falcons of St. Augustine's manage to move ahead of the Trojans on day 2 taking the championship title.

OVERALL
The VSU Trojans have worked extremely hard this season and their trophies and awards are prove of their work. Although the CIAA Championships have concluded, the Trojans are preparing to participate in the Mount Olive Last Chance event on May 13 before competing at the 2018 NCAA DII Championship.
