(March 9, 2018) – The Virginia State University Women's Basketball team closed out the 2018 season with a tough 80-55 loss to the Fighting Scots of Edinboro University in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Atlantic Region Women's Basketball Championship on March 9 at Barco-Stevens Hall.

Senior
Mia Fitts led the Trojans collecting 14 points and three steals in her 37 minutes played. Senior
Alexis Smith was VSU's second leading scorer finishing the contest with 13 points and two assists.
Keyana Brown finished with nine points, three rebounds, two blocks and one assist. Junior
Chrisanna Green chipped in with six points and 12 rebounds.
Ebony Reynolds contributed five points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Edinboro started the contest with a 4-0 lead at the 8:22 mark. Virginia State tied the game at the 7:11 mark, with a three pointer by Tiera Pendleton. Virginia State then added its first basket at the 7:54 mark. With 2:36 left in the quarter, a layup by VSU's
Keyana Brown made the score 16-6 in favor of the Fighting Scots. EU then jumped to a 22-8 lead to close out the opening stanza.
Second Quarter:
Dionna Marcus secured the opening basket at the 8:11 mark to cut EU's lead 25-10. The Trojans then added seven points over the next four minutes in an attempt to cut the Fighting Scots lead, 36-17. The Fighting Scots would keep the contest in their favor. VSU continued to fight adding 10 points in the remaining minutes with EU taking a 39-27 lead into the locker room.
Third Quarter:
The Fighting Scots started the quarter with adding three points at the 9:39 mark to take a 42-27 advantage. Edinboro then continued to add points growing its lead 50-36 by the 4:24 mark. Virginia State then added a basket by
Chrisanna Green to cut the deficit to 57-42 with 1:18 left in the quarter. EU led 59-42 heading to the final stanza.
Fourth Quarter:
EU added 27 points to the books to secure the victory, never trailing in the contest. VSU scored its final basket on a layup by Aja Robertson in the final 35 seconds to close out the game.
VSU shot 31.49% from the field (22-70) and 47.1% (8-17) from the free throw line. The Trojans look to regroup as they prepare for next season.
