INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –The Virginia State University men's basketball team received good news on Sunday (3/4) night after hearing the Trojans named announced for an appearance into the 2018 NCAA DII Men's Basketball Atlantic Region Tournament. The Trojans (24-4) will host the Atlantic Regional tournament for the first time in school history and will face the Virginia Union University on March 10.
The Trojans have secured the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Region. Virginia State, the No. 1 seed, takes on No. 8 seed Virginia Union; No. 3 Wheeling Jesuit plays No. 6 West Chester and No. 4 West Liberty has No. 5 Shippensburg. The Atlantic Region tournament set to begin March 10, 2018. The semi-final round will be Sunday, March 11. After an off day the Atlantic Region Championship game will be March 13.
"We're really excited about the opportunity, the team have worked hard this entire season and look forward to welcoming all the teams to Virginia State University campus", said Virginia State head coach Lonnie Blow Jr.
Virginia State, the No. 1 seed, takes on No. 8 seed Virginia Union; No. 3 Wheeling Jesuit plays No. 6 West Chester and No. 4 West Liberty has No. 5 Shippensburg.
Virginia State's last appeared in the NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament was in 2015-16, where the Trojans defeated Fairmont State University in its opening round 76-66. VSU then fell to West Liberty on the road by a score of 74-84.
