ETTRICK, Va. (February 28, 2018) - In just a few hours before VSU will be tipping off in the quarter finals round of the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) basketball tournament the Trojans have secured the No. 1 ranking in the Atlantic Region.
The significance of being ranked No. 1 is the opportunity to host the eight teams in the Atlantic Region tournament set to begin March 10, 2018. The semi-final round will be Sunday, March 11. After an off day the Atlantic Region Championship game will be March 13. The final selection for the tournament participants and host institution will be announced on Sunday, March 4. The eight person national committee will also evaluate each team Strength of Schedule, Performance Indicator, RPI, wins, loss percentage versus ranked teams, common opponents and head to head competition if any. The final selection will include three automatic bids to the conference champions from the CIAA, Mountain East, and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. There will be five at large teams selected to complete the field.
