ETTRICK, Va. (January 29, 2018) – The Virginia State University men's and women's basketball teams will travel to Raleigh, N.C. to face the Lady Bears and Bears of Shaw University (SU) at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan. 31. The women's game will tipoff at 6 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.

The Women's Game: The Trojans (17-2, 7-2 CIAA, 2-2 North) defeated the Bulldogs of Bowie State University (BSU) 67-59 at the VSU Multipurpose Center on Jan. 27.
Alexis Smith led the Trojans with 16 points, five assists, three rebounds, one block and one steal.
Keyana Brown finished with 15 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Mia Fitts chipped in with 13 points.
Chrisanna Green finished with a double-double performance contributing 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Dionna Marcus chipped in with six points.
The Shaw University women's basketball team (5-16, 2-7 CIAA, 1-3 South) was responsible for a season-high 31 turnovers that cost them an 85-59 decision at Fayetteville State University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest on Jan. 27 inside the Felton J. Capel Arena. Shaw falls to 1-3 within the division. Martin scored a career-high 21 points to lead Shaw, while Johnson-Tyler added 13 points and seven rebounds.
Last season, the Trojans took a (69-57) victory over the Lady Bears at home on Feb. 1, 2017.
The Men's Game: The Trojans (17-2, 7-2 CIAA, 3-1 North) fell to the Bulldogs of Bowie State University (BSU), 65-55, at the VSU Multipurpose Center on Jan. 27.
Richard Granberry and
Cyonte Melvin led the way for the Trojans with 11 points each.
Trey Brown posted eight points and three rebounds while
Waymond Wright chipped in with seven points. Lual Rahama helped the Trojans with six points.
SU men (13-7, 6-3 CIAA, 3-1 South) was handed their first division loss of the season at Fayetteville State University (6-14, 3-6 CIAA, 2-2 South) on Saturday afternoon inside Felton J. Capel Arena. Senior Savon Goodman (Philadelphia, PA) scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds while senior DeAngelo Stephens-Bell (Jacksonville, FL) added 18 points, six assist, three rebounds and two steals. Sophomore DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) contributed 12 points in the loss for.
Last season, the Trojans took a (75-69) victory over the Bears at home on Feb. 1, 2017.
