Box Score 2 SHEPHERDTOWN, WV- The Virginia State University Trojan volleyball team rounded out day 2 of the Shepherd University Showdown with a 0-2 record.
At the conclusion of the weekend tournament, the Trojans move to a 0-8 overall record.
In their first match of the day, the Trojans fell to Ursuline College in 4 sets (14-25, 25-21, 13-25, 19-25). Although set 1 moved fast for VSU with a score of 25-14, the Trojans turned their game around in set 2. Despite the extremely close scoring gap, VSU was victorious with a score of 25-21. The Trojans were unable to keep the same momentum in the final 2 sets with a score of 13-25 and 19-25.
Junior Hailey Heyward led the Trojans with 11 kills, while senior Miranda Bass took charge with 26 assists and 20 digs.
VSU's last matchup of the showdown was against the tournaments host, Shepherd University. The Trojans were unable to find a rhythm in the matchup, falling in 3 quick sets (17-25, 14-25, 19-25).
The Trojans will have a few days off to regroup before they enter conference play on September 16 in Bowie, MD.
