Box Score 2 ETTRICK, Va.- The VSU Trojan softball team split with the Howard University Bisons on March 13 in their doubleheader matchup.
In game 1, the Trojans enforced the 10 run rule with a 13-3 victory over the Bisons.
Junior
Marissa Hughes (Upper Marlboro, MD) led the game with 3 runs, while junior
Laricesa Miles (Emporia, VA), rookie
Dominique Mulero (Chatham, VA) and senior
Alexandra King (Annandale, VA) each chipped in 2 runs. Junior
Briana Pierce (Halifax, VA), sophomore
Rebecca Elder (Chesterfield, VA) and rookie
Amirah Chaney (Passaic, NJ) collected a single run. Giving the Trojans their first homerun of the season was sophomore
Tatyana Jordan (Chesterfield, VA).
VSU was 2 for 2 in the 1
st and 2
nd inning after several stolen bases and a wild pitch to give them 4 runs. Howard attempted to close the scoring gap in the 3
rd inning, but the Trojans answered back with 5 runs to include Jordan's homer that secured 3 runs.
The Bisons were only able to gain 1 run in the 4
th inning as the Trojans sealed the deal bringing home 4 runners for the 13-3 lead. After a quick 3 outs at the top of the 5
th inning for Howard, VSU locked in their second win of the season.
Howard bounced back in game 2, defeating VSU 11-4.
The Trojans were able to get on the board in the 4
th inning with a run by Miles and senior Camryn Smith (Powhatan, VA).
Junior DeMone Brickhouse (Southhampton, VA) was able to advance home on a wild pitch in the 6
th inning while Mulero ran home at the bottom of the 7
th. After a strike out and a ground out to short stop, the Trojan took the loss against Howard.
VSU will travel to Raleigh, NC for the CIAA Round up on March 18-20. The Trojans are set to face Shaw and Winston-Salem State in their first 2 games of the event.
