Trojans drop final non-conference double header

GAME 1 | Chowan 10, Virginia State 0

ETTRICK, Va. --Makenzi Curry and Abby Rutledge combined to toss a shutout on Friday as the Chowan Hawks blanked the Virginia State Trojans 10-0.

Madison Jones (2-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Virginia State (4-12).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Virginia State managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The Trojans last got a runner on third in the fourth, when Shmya Hankins made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.

GAME NOTES

ETTRICK, Va. --The Virginia State Trojans got three hits out of Lauren Parham in a 5-2 loss to the Chowan Hawks Friday.

Ava Brown (1-5) started and took the loss in the circle for Virginia State (4-13).

In addition to her three hits, Parham had a walk to lead the Trojans. Mylia Knight compiled a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Shmya Hankins also chipped in for Virginia State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 3-0, the Trojans first put runs on the board in the second inning. Virginia State got an RBI single from Knight, scoring Hankins from third base.

The Trojans kept the deficit at 3-1 before closing the gap further in the third. Parham came across to score the lone run of the inning for Virginia State, which tightened the Hawks lead to 3-2. The Trojans were unable to get any closer, as Chowan added two runs to their tally on the way to a 5-2 final.
